initiatives to reduce crime. However, publication of crime stats each month at
Redbridge Cabinet needs to happen to improve crime reduction. The stats need to
be within a written report accompanied by an oral report with public questions
taken. Similar reports need to be produced for housing, health and all services
that the Council provide or scrutinise. The Council have declared a climate
emergency, so it is particularly puzzling that monthly reports on what is being
done about the climate emergency are not being produced. Stats and reports are
key in the private sector and the NHS. It must be right that Council introduce
monthly reporting too.</span><p></p>

Mr Walker referenced the good news of further capital development at King George Hospital and noted that sometimes projects were delayed and questioned therefore whether the project was on target and whether it would be expected to help reduce the poor Type 1 Emergency Department results. In response, the Chief Executive clarified that the works referred to were two additional theatres which would be part of the Trust’s Elective Hub. It was reported that building works were on track for a Spring 2024 opening and whilst the work would offer enhancements it was unlikely to affect Type 1 Emergency Department performance. The work would not provide inpatient beds and the only possible benefit to Type 1 performance was that a significant number of people attending the Emergency Departments were on the Trust’s surgical lists. Therefore, if planned care could be managed on time, this might take the pressure off the Trust’s front door.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px;">The new wing currently being built at the King George Site is very welcome, but is a job half done.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px;">The trust is building new theatres to cope with our growing population, but has failed to put in a bid for new in-patient beds to cope with existing and future demand. They show a new wing at King George being built. Well this is very welcome, it is only half the job because the wing is for two theatres, it does not include any overnight inpatient beds which are vital if the longest A&E waits in England at BHRUT are to be reduced.</p><p> The campaign team have a meeting on the 17th July at Redbridge Town Hall to call for another new wing for in-patient beds. This is reasonable with the sharply rising BHRUT catchment population.</p><p>We have a photoshoot this Saturday 10th June at 12:45pm meet for a 1pm photoshoot to promote the meeting on the 17th July. King George Hospital called for a new wing at King George relying on the BHRUT AGM
board papers stating there is a 100 bed shortfall at King George & Queens hospitals.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">Since then the situation has got
worse: the type 1 A&E performance is often the worst in England. In the
video clip at <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1X5sx2CScmSJZzgWnTf2WYIIx9tom2UVE/view?usp=sharing" title="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1X5sx2CScmSJZzgWnTf2WYIIx9tom2UVE/view?usp=sharing">Mr
Trainer on bed shortfall</a> from the March 2022 board meeting, Matthew Trainer,
the BHRUT CE says the key hour A&E type 1 benchmark is sometimes as 20%, way
below the safety benchmark of 95%<o:p></o:p></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dy8CnBGUThQdLsSa6zy4304ijyOqyQ4TYqigBJTTxZUX_gxAN6rFcuNRRdN0HSdpnr_5rWZSXF2gRUcjfSUqg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br /><span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;"><br /></span></p>
<p><span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">Mr Trainer says there are bed shortfalls
in acute assessment and community stroke totalling around 40 beds. BHRUT has
the funding to open these beds, but cannot find the staff. Mr Trainer also says
that care would be “significantly different” if all the beds were staffed. Mr
Trainer defines what he means by significantly different in the video clip. However,
the A&E wait time would only improve marginally. It is a scandal that the
NHS is not offering enough wages to attract staff. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">Mr Trainer does not say this, but
perhaps you will agree with me that the bed and staffing shortfall will
increases the risk of poor care.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">We have a public meeting calling
for a new wing for King George hospital for Saturday 9th April at
3pm. Speakers include Bob Archer, (Redbridge Trades Council), Ashburn Holder, (Liberal
Democrats) and RoseMary Warrington (Greens). It would be great to have some elected
representatives with us too. The meeting is also on Zoom at meeting id 892 5049
4827passcode 832165<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">I am writing to my elected representatives
requesting one of them write to Mr Trainer to enquire if the situation has
improved. Once the current situation is known I expect a letter will be agreed
for local newspapers and the Secretary of State along with photos of our banner
calling for a new wing for King George.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p><span style="color: black; font-size: 13.5pt;">The above are my own views and not of any of the speakers.</span></p>

Dagenham, Havering & Redbridge Councillors</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><br />
</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">The latest NHS A&E
stats shows BHRUT the worst performing Trust in England for type 1
A&E performance for January 2021. The safety benchmark is 95%,
BHRUT came in at 39.5%. I quote from a Health Service Journal article
of 12th February .</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><br />
</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"><span style="color: #333333;">“<span style="font-family: OpenSans-webfont;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Barking,
Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust has struggled with
the accident and emergency access target for years. Its longstanding
staffing and capacity problems have been dramatically exacerbated by
covid and in January it only dealt with 39.5 per cent of patients
inside the four-hour target.</span></span></span></span></span> “</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"><br />
</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">BHRUT
accept there is a bed shortage of 90 beds, 60 for the elderly &
30 for specialist medicine. A video of the board discussing this
shortage is my twitter @andywalker1945 for the 29th
November. My expectation is that even more beds and doctors are
required to reach NHS safety benchmarks.</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"><br />
</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">Our
latest campaign meeting for a new wing takes place on Saturday 27th
March at 3pm. So far we have Keith Prince AM, Cllr Nic Dodin,
Rosemary Warrington of the Green Party & Pete Mason of the
Socialist Party. We also have a number of trade unionists speaking
and I hope the platform will grow. If you would like to speak please
get in touch with me.</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"><br />
</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">I
am minded to formalise the campaign by setting up a bank account with
£25 affiliation fee for local groups to join to cover campaigning
costs and so build support for the campaign. This can be discussed at
the 27th March meeting. The aim is for local political
party branches, trade unions, faith groups, resident associations etc
to affiliate.
</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"><br />
</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">Should
you wish to speak on the 27th March and or discuss being
listed as a supporter on the campaign website do contact me. First
draft of constitution is:</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"><br />
</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">“The
campaign seeks to campaign for a new wing at King George Hospital on
a cross party and cross borough basis to improve care for residents
in Barking & Dagenham, Havering & Redbridge. To this end we
seek £25 affiliation fees from local political party branches, trade
unions, faith groups, resident associations & other community
groups. How best to drive the campaign forward will be discussed at
public meetings which will be held at least twice a year with an
Annual General Meeting to elect officers”</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"><br />
</p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; orphans: 2; widows: 2;">Regards</p>

I will write to Sam Tarry, Keith Prince, Rosemary Warrington and others to build a cross party platform of speakers.</p><p>At a future meeting I will be asking Jas to continue with his "corridors of power" campaign by meeting senior elected representatives and NHS managers to allow him to drive the campaign forward.</p><p>The meeting is at my Faceboook page, Jas speaks around 23 minutes on the issue the link is below.</p><p>https://www.facebook.com/1466018193/videos/10224245261866987/</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Andy Walkerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11545818638576027555noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2937086147778661525.post-54491642107579471932020-10-15T08:45:00.004-07:002020-10-15T08:45:37.181-07:00Good to get the support of Redbridge Trades Council for a new wing for King George meeting in 2020<p> Delighted to report the support of Redbridge Trades Council for a new wing for King George meeting in March 2020.</p><p>Hoping other organisations will come on board soon.</p>Andy Walkerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11545818638576027555noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2937086147778661525.post-34364299421140213482020-09-25T06:04:00.002-07:002020-09-25T06:04:38.837-07:00Petition for new wing for King George passes first hurdle last night<p> </p><p>The 1500 plus petition was heard last night at Redbridge Council. The petition is <a href="http://chng.it/PwsnpmKp">HERE</a> The officer recommendation was to do nothing with it, in effect to bin it.</p><p>I made the speech below seeking Cllrs overturn the officer recommendation. I am delighted to say Cllrs listened and agreed to pass the petition forward to health scrutiny on a cross party basis. The next step is to persuade the Council to set up a working party and produce a detailed report into the matter. Speech is below:</p><p><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px;">Firstly, I want to put my thanks on record to the late Cllr Stuart Bellwood for his help in campaigning on King George over the years. I recently tweeted a photo of Stuart, Jas and others campaigning for maternity to come back to King George.</span></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">I am puzzled that no public questions are allowed tonight, my petition is being heard about King George now, but not my question on King George which was tabled earlier this year for the same meeting as this petition.</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">So if the Mayor allows the Leader to respond by suspending standing orders. I ask this question of the Leader.</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">Why isn't this Labour Council supporting the campaign for a new wing at King George Hospital comprising maternity and more in-patient acute beds by referring this petition to the Health Scrutiny Committee?</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">(assuming no reply)</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">I raise this because an earlier petition of mine was referred to HSC and a working paper prepared a detailed report into King George & Queens chaired by Wes Streeting which was a vital part of the campaign to keep open King George A&E.</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">The campaign for a new wing at King George will not really take off until this Council refers this issue to HSC, prepares a detailed report and gets the support of all Redbridge parties before moving on to lobby other boroughs</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">However, while we should campaign for a new wing for King George, we must not be complacent about the threat to King George A&E as a type 1 unit. Children's A&E at King George was closed earlier this year as a type 1 unit when Clover Ward, the only children in-patient ward was closed. BHRUT claim the Children's A&E remains open as a type 1 facility, this is a nonsense. By this reasoning BHRUT could claim King George A&E could stay open as a type 1 facility if there was not a single in patient bed!</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">It must also be of concern that the 111 service has not been informed of the closure of Clover ward.</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">I am baffled that a chunk of my petition has been cut out as follows:</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; color: #363135;">“<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Change Calibre, Helvetica Neue, Helvetica, Arial, Tahoma, sans-serif;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 15pt;">Cllr Neil Zammett, Chair of Redbridge Health Scrutiny reported on 3rd October 2019 that following an investigation of BHRUT reporting of A&E four hour waits that there had probably been an “understatement” of figures reported since August 2018</span></span></span> “</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">Why Redbridge officers are not presenting the full text of a petition is beyond me, it begs questions as to whether other documents are being edited without Cllr's knowledge.</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">Four hour A&E statistics are a vital benchmark of a hospital's performance, that Cllr Zammett had concerns about BHRUT reporting is not something that should be covered up.</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">My concern is that BHRUT still plan to close King George A&E as a type 1 facility, substantial steps to closing the unit have not been reversed such as the decline in King George admissions shown at page 24 of the Wes Streeting report I mentioned earlier.</p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;"><br style="box-sizing: border-box;" /></p><p class="western" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #333333; font-family: OpenSans-webfont; font-size: 16px; margin: 0px 0px 0cm;">For around a year I have been in a freedom of information dispute with BHRUT seeking they publish death rates on a monthly basis at King George and Queens with a view to discovering if there is a link between worse death rates at Queens due to it being more over crowded than King George. <br /></div>
<div>
If King George did not have any in-patient beds for adults it would no longer be a type 1 A&E and instead downgraded to a type 3 urgent care centre. The same follows now King George no longer has in-patient beds for children, the children's A&E has been downgraded to a type 3 urgent care centre. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You have clearly misled Keith with your claim that the type 1 Children's A&E remains open. I would be grateful if you could retract your email. Instead, I suggest sending an email clarifying the position along with a statement on your website saying the Chidren's A&E at King George is closed and advising parents to go Queens along the lines that every other hospital in England has done where a children's type 1 A&E has been shut.</div>

For the avoidance of any doubt, my email is mine alone, and no implication should be made that Keith shares my view.</div>

By closing Clover Ward, Mr Chambers closed all in-patient beds for children at King George Hospital, and reduced the service from a full type 1 A&E to a more restricted type 3 urgent care A&E.</div>

This is because transferring children from King George to other hospitals puts children at a slight but nonetheless real risk of worse care.</div>

I ask a question of Cllr Athwal, the leader of Redbridge Council on the 26th of March Council meeting, inviting him to speak in favour of a new wing at King George Hospital at a public meeting on the 25th of April. The question is at the end of end of this email.</div>

Usually, because I am a Redbridge resident I would not be allowed to ask a question at any of your public meetings. However I am requesting an exception be made to ask a similar question at a Barking and Dagenham meeting. The campaign aim is to seek a cross borough and cross party consensus that additional capacity needs to be located at King George Hospital in order to relieve the pressure on Queen's Hospital which cannot cope. If you are supportive, I would be grateful if you could write to whoever you think appropriate to allow me to speak.</div>

I say the outcome of the BHRUT clinical strategy review must include a bid for capital funding to build a new wing at King George Hospital. The first wing was built in 2007 for the North East London Treatment Centre. Since then the North East London Population has grown and is set to grow further requiring the opening of a second wing at King George. It is now time to implement a 2017 PWC report commissioned by BHRUT, as part of the <span style="color: black;">clinical strategy review</span>, for extra beds at a cost of £125M. The report did not state the location of the beds. King George seems the obvious choice with its location by the A12 and the space available both for parking and a new wing. Presumably these were the reasons King George was chosen back in 2007 for extra capacity and they remain the same today.</div>

As you know, I asked all the panel to speak at a public meeting campaigning for a new wing at King George Hospital. Three of the panel gave an unqualified yes to speaking at the proposed meeting if elected to be the MP for Ilford North, Howard Berlin: Conservatives, Mark Johnson: Liberal Democrats & David Reynolds: Green Party and posed with the pledge board below.<br />

Both of you gave an qualified acceptance seeking more information before making a decision. I would be grateful if you could also agree to speak at proposed public meeting for the following reasons.<br />
<br />
<b style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;">1) 2017 NHS report</b><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;"> saying £125M needs to be spent on extra beds</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;">BHRUT, the Trust managing King George and Queens commissioned a report in 2017 from PWC, the management consultants into the future of King George & Queens which is </span><a href="https://redbridgetradeunionparty.files.wordpress.com/2019/09/attachment-3ii-kgh-new-strategic-narrative-appendix-b-1-1.pdf" style="background-color: white; color: #888888; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-decoration-line: none;">HERE</a><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;"> The key part is below:</span><br />

<br />
<br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;">The report is silent about which site the £125M should be spent or if it is a combination of extra beds at both sites. King George appears the best because it has the space for both a new wing, car parking and an excellent link to the A12 for intelligent traffic lights for patients with life threatening conditions where every second counts.</span><br />
<br />
2) In 2018 <span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;">Wes Streeting MP chaired a report funded by Redbridge Council about King George and Queens a copy is </span><a href="http://moderngov.redbridge.gov.uk/documents/s113032/BHRUTEDScrutinyWGoutcomereport-final.pdf" style="background-color: white; color: #888888; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-decoration-line: none;">HERE</a><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;"> an extract from page 66 is below.</span><br />

<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;">The bed closures are acute, this means for emergency admissions, these beds have been substituted in part by closing rehabilitation beds from the closure of Wanstead hospital and beds at from St Georges in Hornchurch.</span><br style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;" /><br style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;" /><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;">Closing these beds has damaged patient care and caused the need, together with an expanding population for a new wing at King George.</span><br />
<br />
The report also found at page 24 that KGH had admissions cut from 1,500 patients a month from March 2015 to 1,300 patients a month <br />
<br />
3) The consequence of the bed closures, along with the removal of the medical staff associated with them has, when combined with a rising population, has put patient safety at risk at both King George and Queens. The extract below at point 6 from the BHRUT website shows the damage caused by putting too much pressure on Queens with bed occupancy often at 99% causing operations to be cancelled.<br />

<br />
My twitter feed also shows how type 1 A&E performance has declined significantly at Queens and concerns about sepsis deaths.<br />
<br />
I hope that is sufficient information for you to come on board with the campaign.<br />
<br />
I hope to hear from you soon.<br />

Cllr Athwal is wrong to say a new wing for King George is policy making on the hoof. On the contrary, it is backed up by substantial and well funded research both by the NHS and Redbridge Council below.<br />

<b>2017 NHS report</b> saying £125M needs to be spent on extra beds<br />
<br />
BHRUT commissioned a report in 2017 from PWC, the management consultants into the future of King George & Queens which is <a href="https://redbridgetradeunionparty.files.wordpress.com/2019/09/attachment-3ii-kgh-new-strategic-narrative-appendix-b-1-1.pdf">HERE</a> The key part is below<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiizm-CRy7o-36R92LYgdxx3kI9yTKZYC62RzA7rbNAb_g9LFs14JxHv6Kzlz_8rSTVwW-SDuCsiOIKIremM03yELVmbnWsNd6CPIhMQUKPC734VZUrPxdPePMsK9YRV9JXJ2pd8jg8byXL/s1600/PWC.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="472" data-original-width="1080" height="276" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiizm-CRy7o-36R92LYgdxx3kI9yTKZYC62RzA7rbNAb_g9LFs14JxHv6Kzlz_8rSTVwW-SDuCsiOIKIremM03yELVmbnWsNd6CPIhMQUKPC734VZUrPxdPePMsK9YRV9JXJ2pd8jg8byXL/s640/PWC.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The report is silent which site the £125M should be spent or if it is a combination of extra beds at both sites. King George appears the best because it has the space for both a new wing, car parking and an excellent link to the A12 for intelligent traffic lights for patients with life threatening conditions where every second counts.<br />
<br />
<b>2018 Redbridge Council Report showing 160 beds closed</b><br />
<br />
Wes Streeting MP chaired a report funded by Redbridge Council about King George and Queens a copy is <a href="http://moderngov.redbridge.gov.uk/documents/s113032/BHRUTEDScrutinyWGoutcomereport-final.pdf">HERE</a> an extract from page 66 is below.<br />

<br />
Closing these beds has damaged patient care and caused the need, together with an expanding population for a new wing at King George.<br />
