Pledge board for new wing wing at King George gets first outing at BHRUT AGM

Thank you to everyone attending

Great to have the support of  Ashburn Holder of the Liberal Democrats &  Rosemary Warrington, the prospective parliamentary prospective candidates for the Ilford South at the recent BHRUT AGM, Plenty of work to do to get as many parliamentary candidates & GLA candidates on board to build up a cross party and cross borough consensus that the King George site, with an excellent location by the A12 and the space for a new wing and extra car parking, is the ideal place for more acute capacity to cope with the growing East London population. The petition for a new wing at King George was handed in and I will post the BHRUT reply in due course.

Email to Redbridge Councillors plugging 9th September meeting for a new wing at King George

Dear Councillors

BHRUT, the NHS trust managing King George and Queens Hospitals are reviewing their clinical strategy. This review started back in 2017 with the paper below written by PWC, the leading management consultants: http://archive.eastlondonhcp.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Attachment-3ii-KGH-New-Strategic-narrative-Appendix-B.pdf The paper says at page 5 that £125M is the cost of providing more beds at our hospitals to cope with the growing East London population. In 2018 Redbridge Council produced a paper below about King George and Queens: http://moderngov.redbridge.gov.uk/documents/s113032/BHRUTEDScrutinyWGoutcomereport-final.pdf saying at page 66 per the photo attached that around 160 beds have been closed which has damaged A&E performance.

The July 2019 NHS statistics show BHRUT has some of the worst 4 hour A&E type 1 waiting times in England.

BHRUT may not have accepted the advice of PWC for an increase in bed numbers. This is because BHRUT have appointed Carnall Farrar Ltd as new management consultants as advisers to the clinical review. Carnall Farrar Ltd specialise in making A&E departments more efficient per the link below.

so suggesting BHRUT may not favour of any new emergency admission beds at all, let alone the new wing which is obviously required.

This is the outline argument for why we need a new wing, the first task for the campaign is to persuade the BHRUT board to accept they will examine the option of building a new wing at King George. To that end, it would much appreciated if you could attend the meeting on 9th September which has a cross party platform and/or share the event page below. A New Wing For King George There is also a petition below: Sign the Petition

The petition references the Redbridge Council plan to surround King George with housing. To be fair to the administration I understand that this plan is under review. My exchanges with Cllr Athwal on the subject at cabinet on my Facebook page suggest that Redbridge will producing a plan for a wing at King George in the near future as part of their submission to the review

BHRUT have been invited to send a speaker along on the 9th September to set out the options they are considering. Since the PWC paper was written in July 2017, it seems reasonable for BHRUT to share their views with us now.

Regards

Andy
